Josh Powell was born and raised in Lexington, SC. Both his father and grandfather were Southern Baptist pastors in the area. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from North Greenville University, as well as a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Theological Studies and is pursuing a PhD in American Church History from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Josh and his wife Allison were married in 1998, and have 4 children – Wilds, Levi, Macy Grace and Paton.
Josh and Allison both have had many opportunities to serve several times overseas on mission trips. In 2009, the opportunity arose for Josh to become the founding president of Bobbili Baptist Seminary in Bobbili, India. Since then, Josh, Allison, and the family have spent time there and began to teach the area pastors. After being able to serve two local congregations, Josh is more than excited to be able to continue to serve Jesus Christ in his hometown. Josh has been familiar with Lake Murray Baptist Church his entire life, and has always had affection for the congregation. Josh has a passion to lead this body towards their vision of a Gospel centered and mission focused church.
Chris was born in Greenville and grew up in the upstate of South Carolina. He is a graduate of North Greenville University and attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Chris was ordained at Marietta First Baptist Church in Marietta, SC in August of 2001. After college, Chris worked as a manufacturing manager for Milliken & Company. He has planted Spanish language churches in Marietta, SC and Louisville, KY. While in seminary, in addition to the Hispanic ministry, he worked as Archives and Special Collections Assistant at the James P. Boyce Centennial Library. He returned to South Carolina to serve as Senior Pastor at Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Greer.
Chris and his wife Laura were married in 1999 and have two children, Hannah Kate and William. Chris has a passion to strengthen relationships within the body of Christ and develop disciples with a desire to be engaged in missional living.
David Sons is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but grew up just down the road near Aiken, SC. David graduated from North Greenville University in 2008, with a B.A. in Communications, and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. From May 2008 - July 2012, he served as the student pastor at the First Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC, where he was ordained into full-time vocational ministry in May, 2010. In the summer of 2012, he moved to help with the launch of The Church At Cane Bay, a church plant in Summerville, SC.
David is a gifted speaker and has a thriving itinerant preaching ministry. He speaks each year to thousands of college, high school and middle students throughout the southeast. He is also a developing writer, having written for The SEND Network, The Council On Biblical Manhood & Womanhood and StudentLife publications. David's wife, Allyson, is originally from Sumter, SC and is a graduate of The University of South Carolina. David and Allyson were married in 2011 and they have 2 sons, Titus and Max.
Justin is from Camden, South Carolina. Strongly influenced by his grandparents, Justin was brought up in church and as a teenager came to know the Lord. He began to look for ways to serve; he developed and used his gifts and talents in music to lead worship for his church youth group. Justin earned his Bachelors degree in biology from the Honors College at USC. Justin’s love for music, devotion to the Lord, and a calling to serve the church have led him to pursue music ministry as a full time career.Justin’s talent and experience are both tremendous, but most importantly he loves Jesus and desires to lead the church in genuine worship.
Walt grew up in London, Kentucky and moved to South Carolina to attend Presbyterian College. He is married to his beautiful wife Ally and they have three children Ava, Atticus and baby girl, Elliot. Walt grew up in the church but it wasn't until college that God graciously showed him the beauty of the Gospel. Walt serves as the Associate Student Director at Lake Murray Baptist Church where he seeks to equip students to love, serve, and lead in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Emily grew up in Irmo, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked in Lexington/Richland District Five as a classroom teacher and reading intervention specialist before beginning a new career as a stay-at-home mom. She has been heavily involved in children's ministry over the last decade, using her passion for children to serve in a variety of roles. Emily and her husband, Brad, joined LMBC in 2011 and have two sons, Carson and Stephen.
Jordan is originally from Anderson, SC and moved to Columbia as a teenager. She graduated from Furman University in 2011 with degrees in religion and biology. Her passion for serving others through the Lord has been life-long, especially sharing God’s word with the undeserved and unreached populations in the United States and abroad. She also finds tremendous joy in serving the Lord by working with the children’s ministry here at LMBC and helping children and young adults come to have a closer relationship with Christ.
Susan grew up with her twin sister in Orangeburg, SC. She graduated from Winthrop in 1985 with a degree in Interior Design. After living in Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC she moved to Chattanooga, TN; which is where she turned her life over to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Susan brings creativity and computer skills as well as a love of serving others to her position as ministry assistant. She has one son, Griffin.
Wendy grew up in Darlington, SC and moved to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina. She graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and obtained her CPA license in 1999. Wendy married her high school sweetheart, Robbie, and they now have two sons: Dylan and Clayton.
